Meal Planning

Plan your weekly meals with ListAIse's intuitive calendar interface. Schedule breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, then auto-generate your grocery list with one tap.

Introduction to Meal Planning

Meal planning in ListAIse helps you organize your weekly meals, reduce food waste, and simplify grocery shopping. Instead of deciding what to cook each day, plan ahead and let ListAIse automatically create your shopping list from your meal plans.

Save Time

Plan once for the entire week. No more daily decisions about what to cook or last-minute grocery runs.

Reduce Waste

Buy exactly what you need. Mark leftovers to use existing ingredients and minimize food waste.

Adding Meals to the Calendar

There are multiple ways to add meals to your calendar. Choose recipes from your library, browse the Ideas tab, or create custom meal entries.

Methods for Adding Meals

Perfect for favorite recipes you cook regularly

From Ideas Tab

Great when you need inspiration for what to cook

Custom Meal Entry

Create a simple meal entry with a name and optional notes. Perfect for quick meals or eating out.

Example: "Leftovers from Sunday dinner" or "Dinner at Mom's"

Quick Add

Long-press on any meal slot to quickly add a meal without opening the full meal picker. Just type the meal name and press Enter.

Using Leftovers

The Leftovers feature helps you reduce food waste and save money. Mark a meal as "leftover" to indicate you'll use food you already have, and it won't add to your grocery list.

How Leftovers Work

  • Leftovers are marked with a special badge in the calendar
  • They don't consume your meal planning quota
  • No ingredients are added to your grocery list
  • Great for batch cooking and meal prep strategies

Free Leftovers

Marking a meal as leftover is always free and doesn't count against your monthly meal planning quota. Use this feature liberally to plan your week efficiently!

Auto-Generate Grocery List

The most powerful feature of meal planning is automatic grocery list generation. Once your week is planned, ListAIse extracts all ingredients and creates an organized shopping list.

1

Plan Your Week

Add meals for each day. You can plan as few or as many meals as you want.
2

Tap Generate List

Press the "Generate Grocery List" button at the bottom of the meal planning screen.
3

Review & Customize

ListAIse shows all extracted ingredients. Remove items you already have, adjust quantities, or add extras.
4

Tips & Best Practices

Plan on the Weekend

Take 15 minutes on Sunday to plan your entire week. This saves hours of daily decision-making and ensures you shop efficiently.

Use Batch Cooking

Plan a big meal on Sunday and mark Monday's lunch as leftovers. This maximizes your cooking effort and reduces weekday stress.

Theme Your Days

Assign themes like "Meatless Monday" or "Taco Tuesday" to simplify planning and add variety to your meals.

Check Before Generating

Before generating your grocery list, quickly review your pantry. You can remove items you already have when reviewing the generated list.

Involve the Family

Share your meal plan with family members. Everyone can see what's for dinner and contribute meal ideas.
